During her appearance on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, Watson explained that by her late 20s, she was working 14 to 16 hours a day, six days a week, and it took a real toll. “I would give everything of myself to the project, but there was nothing left for me outside of it,” she admitted.
Watson’s last major role was in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women in 2019, around the time she decided to step away. She described the movie industry as one where it is nearly impossible to maintain balance: “When the job ends, you suddenly stop, and it feels like being dropped into a void. Then you might get a few months off, but you’re completely exhausted.”
Now 35 and with an estimated net worth of about $85 million, Watson has mostly stayed away from film sets over the past five years. She also reflected on how the constant attention and demands of fame left her feeling overstimulated and disconnected.
“After working like that, even trying to have a casual conversation felt impossible—I felt like I was losing touch with normal life,” she said.
Her comments highlight the unseen challenges faced by actors and creatives who seem to have glamorous careers but often struggle with burnout, balance, and the pressures of public life.
